Refashion: Scalloped Hem Skirt

I thrifted this mint colored skirt a few months ago. It was too long and a little more A-line that I would like. At first, I just intended to take the sides in and shorten the skirt, but I had a stroke of inspiration in deciding to scallop the hem.

I just love how it turned out:

j.crew factory crosstown tee - $6.50 | similar here | here | here | and here (on sale)
thrifted mint skirt - $2
thrifted vintage heels - $7 | similar here | and here
j.crew belt - $1.50 | another option here

I found this great Megan Nielsen tutorial for a reversible scallop hem skirt from scratch to be helpful.

I don't expect this to be my last scallop project, so next time I'll try to have more of a tutorial

Have you refashioned anything lately? Leave a link so we can all check it out!

  9. the skirt is really cute, but I'm commenting because I'm wearing the same shirt today! I bought it after I saw your post on the J Crew sale. The fun polka dots make me so happy, so thanks for the recommendation!

  11. I love this! I think you did a great job; I've been drooling over images of scalloped hems on shorts and skirts this spring, but they've all been too short for me. The idea of buying a skirt that's too long and scalloping the hem is genius, and you executed it with panache, as usual. I look forward to seeing a full-blown tutorial at some point.

  14. I LOVE this look so much! I'd like to wear pencil skirts to work but I don't want to look like a career robot. THIS adds such a subtle feminine touch to it and the color is fabulous!
