Look for Less: Ruche Touch of Vintage Lace Skirt

Liz sent me this look for less, and it is a dead ringer. So much so, that I sort of wonder if they aren't the exact same item....

A Touch of Vintage Lace Skirt - Ruche - $48.99
Vintage Lace Skirt - DownEast Basics-$33.99 (Orig. $38.99)

Part of the reason I am suspicious that these two skirts might acutally be the same item, is this gloss article a reader posted about last time I posted a Ruche look for less.

What do you think? Do they look the same to you? Would you wear it? Leave your thoughts below.

  2. Yesterday I saw the same skirt at modcloth and deb. Same exact. Of course modcloth was more.

  4. the ruche one seems to have a bit of an under-lining that the DE Basics one is missing, unless it's just another layer that is not part of the skirt.

  5. Minor differences here, but definitely the same skirt. It's cute! I'm not sure I'd pay $50 for it, though.

I read the article you referenced about ModCloth - interesting. Not surprising. And I'm sure they took down the link on the fb page to keep people from buying the same items elsewhere. Hah.

  7. It's possible they are the same -- I ordered a top from Ruche a couple months ago and it actually had a Down East tag in it! I was very surprised. Thankfully with some sleuthing I discovered that it was priced the same at Down East when it was sold there, but it still bugged me for some reason.

  8. I LOVE that skirt! Funny thing....I love Ruche, and saw that skirt on there yesterday! Great minds think alike. I was wondering if it was cheaper elsewhere! I would totally wear it, except it doesn't look friendly to a baby bump, which I'll have through the summer. Maybe next year ;)

  9. This is not restricted to just Modcloth and Ruche, it's common practice all over the industry. Why do you think sites like Modcloth tend to not post the designer of the item?

I have a friend who works for a jewelry company and she has confirmed that it's not uncommon to sell an item to say, Sears for one price, but then sell the same item to a higher end store at a higher price.

  10. That's so funny that the exact skirt is priced differently at Ruche.

DownEast wholesales to Ruche as does Tulle. I do find it interesting that Ruche will include most outside designers (Tulle, Dear Creatures, etc), but they don't include "DownEast" in the names (although they do keep the same clothing names like "frosted flower cardigan"). I think it might be based on the kind of contract DownEast has with Ruche.

DownEast wholesales to FredFlare.com, but they keep the same pricing as DownEast.

  11. it most likely is the same -
and as far as modcloth - yes they are ripping off their customers. i have found the exact same dress or skirt, or shirt on the websites for cheaper.
they carry dresses and other items that you can find on www.lulus.com for cheaper , or www.shopruche.com, or even at times www.forever21.com, and downeastbasics.com multiple skirts that they carry - like the tulip print skirt can be found also at modcloth for more .
if i find any item that is a must - i check all the similar websites before - to make sure i get the best deal . so far modcloth overprices their clothes from what i can tell.
