Can't Get Enough: Oxfords

I have had a serious change of heart lately, regarding the oxford style shoes that seem to be everywhere. For a long time, I really, um, hated them. I just thought they were for hipsters and that they would go away. Not only have they not gone away, but my feelings on them have turned a full 180.

I have been looking around for a reasonably priced option on oxfords, here's what I found:

  1. Sulia Oxford Flat Shoes - Brown - Target - $19.99 {my faves}
Sulia Oxford Flat Shoes - Black - Target - $19.99
  2. Lace-Up Oxfords - Chadwicks - $24.99 (Orig. $49.99)
  3. Taree Oxford Shoes - Cognac - Target - $24.99
    Taree Oxford Shoes - Black - Target - $24.99
I have seen fashion bloggers wearing them a lot lately. One of my newest favorites, Kansas Couture, is often rocking thrifted versions of this style:

I found a few rules to help you make the transition to wearing oxfords {link}:
  • “Putting flat lace-ups with a wide-leg trouser or jean is a very dated way to wear them,” says Jane Herman, Fashion Writer. “Instead, try a cropped pant.”
  • “This should not be a Wall Street look,” states Filipa Fino, Senior Accessories Editor. “Let the men wear them with suits. Women should wear them with feminine pieces.”
  • “Don’t match the colors of your shoe to your outfit,” suggests Izzie Burch, Fashion Assistant. “These are playful—do the unexpected.”
  • “Avoid socks!” says Jill Demling, Entertainment Editor. “That’s my only rule!”
What do you think of this style? Are you wearing it, do you wish you were, or do wish it would go away already?

Thanks for reading,

Happy Shopping!

  1. For some reason I can't get used to the flat oxfords. But I LOVE the ones with heels. Maybe becuase they look more feminine.

  2. I totally bought white oxfords from kmart.com the other week and I LOVE THEM. I can't wait to plan all sorts of flowy dresses this summer and just slip on my oxfords. So instantly and effortlessly chic and vintage!

  3. I have really big feet for my height, so I avoid wearing any slim shoe such as the ones show above. While I think they are very cute, I tend to look like I have clown feet...especially if wearing skinny jeans!

  4. I never thought about Oxfords before, but I love how they're styled before, and I think the rules would really help. Hmmm... they're definitely something to consider. I love the brown ones with white tops.

  6. I have loved oxford style shoes as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl I had a pair and was heartbroken when they didn't fit anymore. I always see men's pairs at thrift stores and want to buy them, but didn't think I could pull it off. Well, now I will! Thanks for this post!

  8. I have not had a pair of oxford shoes so I don't know how I would look in those. I should try and buy one from a thrift store or something just to try it out. :)

  9. Madeline, yours is one of the few blogs I check daily. I love love it. I found a pair of oxfords at DI (my favorite place to shop) the other day and can't decide to wear them or not. A part of me wants to try a more modern version. These tips were actually super helpful. I'm just sad I missed the boat on the Kmart ones. Thanks for all your daily inspiration!
