Reader Review: AVON Cushion Walk® Riding Boot
/// categories:
clothing review
Here are the boots she is talking about:Absolutely DO NOT buy those boots! I ordered them after seeing them on your blog (which I love, BTW), and they don't resemble anything like the picture. They are not a stiff leather upper, but are instead the flimsy fold-over plastic-y material that cheap knock-offs are made of.
They have a very slippery sole (not good for the NE) and their cushion is the prickly sandal bottom Adidas sported in their sandals a few years back.
Also, the only part of the boot that holds its shape is the area around the foot which is so stiff it rubs your feet immediately into blisters. I sent them back as soon as I tried them on.
Cushion Walk® Riding Boot - AVON - $44.99

Look for Less: J.Crew Oxford Ballet Flat
/// categories:

I was actually shocked when I noticed these Oxford Ballet Flats in J.Crew's most recent catalog this weekend. Not because they aren't adorable, or because I thought they didn't fit in at J.Crew (they totally do). I have just never seen a style start at a cheaper retailer and be copied by a more expensive outfit. I posted on the UO version of these shoes last summer (and I love them just as much today as I did then).
Oxford Ballet Flats - J.Crew - $138.00
Kimchi Blue Two-Tone Wingtip Skimmer - Urban Outfitters - $34.00
And to top it all off, J.Crew's version only comes in black+white, while UO's version comes in either black+white or brown+white (which I prefer).

Pinstripe Woven Shirt - Forever 21 - $17.80

I had the opportunity to go to one day of the Alt Design Conference last week. My friend Melissa was teaching a calligraphy class and let me assist her. It was so amazing. If you want to see a little peak into what I was working on, click here.
I met great people, attended interesting panels, and had an all-around awesome time. I met Caroline in the calligraphy class, and was totally taken with her outfit. She is also expecting (due in the spring) and was rocking an outfit that would work for any stage of womanhood. I decided to come up with my version of what she was wearing for under $100:
{Crinkled Contrast Dress - Forever 21 - $12.90}
{Beautiful Knit Scarf - Forever 21 - $10.80 (Orig. $12.80)}

Pregnancy Update
/// categories:
baby
I keep forgetting to post anything about my pregnancy on here. I think a few of you are interested, so here are a few updates.
This shot is actually from a ultrasound we had way back at 14 weeks. But that cute little profile is the very best shot we have got of this little baby. Steve and I have decided that the babe has my nose + chin, and his forehead.
So, first off we are having a BOY! The hubs and I are so excited. We don't have a name picked out, but we are definitely discussing them at length.
Also, my due date has been adjusted by nearly 3 weeks. The original due date they gave me was May 11, and at the above ultrasound they adjusted it back to June 1. So, I am currently 22 weeks along.
I felt my first kick last week, and have been feeling lots of movement since that time. My ribs are already a bit sore, but I love feeling him move.
The reality of this baby's arrival is getting more and more real. I am in full-force nesting mode. I have endless energy (for which I am so grateful) and never seem to want to sit still. I haven't actually started putting the nursery together, but I have been purging, organizing, and redecorating our place. It feels so nice to get a place that is fresh and ready for a baby to come into.

I spotted this picture over at What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear, which featured a sneak peak into Jayma Mays' recent cover shoot. This was one of the outfits among the shots and I fell in love with it's graphic simplicity.
Here's my budget version:
Long Sleeve Striped Sweater Top - Forever 21 - $13.80
Merona® Euna Pumps - Cheetah - Target - $24.99 (these leopard flats are also a great option)
PARIS BLUES Ultra Skinny Five Pocket Jeans - 15 Dollar Store - $15.00 (Orig. $34.00)
total: $53.79
As a side note, I have posted on the 15 Dollar Store in the past, but it's been awhile since I highlighted the store. They offer broad selection of name brand junior clothing which can be found at well known department stores at full price for just $15. It's worth a look.

I love me some Forever 21. The sheer size of their inventory is something to marvel at. One of my favorite sections at Forever 21 is the Fabulous Finds. I don't think there is an item over $20 - fabulous indeed. I spotted this dress and thought it was pretty, although let me specify that I do not condone anyone wearing this little number as a dress, it's length is definitely in tunic territory as far as I am concerned. In fact, while we are on the subject, every dress at Forever 21 seems to fall into the tunic category, even the maternity dresses, which is completely nonsensical - in my humble opinion. Anyway, on to the dress/tunic:

I recently got an email from the LOFT, telling me their fashion director had just put together 20 looks featuring this seasons must-have pants. I headed over to check it out. I thought the pants were nice, but was much more taken with other details that were consistent through out the looks. Most specifically, the use of stripes, pops of coral, and floral pins. Here are a few of my favorites:
I gathered a few pieces that I think would help all of us make similar looks of our own:
1 - Nautical Striped Cardigan - Forever 21 - $17.80
2 - Ladder Rib Scarf - Free People - $19.95 (Orig. $28.00)
3 - Striped Sweater - Forever 21 - $19.90 {my favorite}
4 - Tweed Flower Pin - The Limited - $2.99 (Orig. $16.90)
5 - Cotton Basic Tee - Forever 21 - $8.80
6 - Mesh Flower Clip - Charlotte Russe - $5.50 {also make sure to check out these hair clips}
