Reader Request: Katie Home's Dress

I got this request from Danielle yesterday,

I love your blog!

I was wondering: can you or your readers help me track down a cheaper version of the Ralph Lauren dress Katie Holmes is wearing here?

Thank you!

Your devoted reader,
Danielle K.

I can see why Danielle likes this dress so much. The color and cut are both spot on. I spied this dress at Old Navy and think it has a similar (if more casual) feel:

Striped Drop-Waist Dress - Old Navy - $29.94

EDIT: After reader, Courtney, left a comment about a Delia's dress, Danielle herself spotted this fantastic find:
Vintage Eyelet Dress - Delia's - $44.50

What do you think? Is this dress a decent match? Have you seen anything similar to Katie Holme's dress? Leave your thoughts below.

Like a Star: Jayma Mays Nest Cover

I spotted this picture over at What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear, which featured a sneak peak into Jayma Mays' recent cover shoot. This was one of the outfits among the shots and I fell in love with it's graphic simplicity.

Here's my budget version:

Long Sleeve Striped Sweater Top - Forever 21 - $13.80
Merona® Euna Pumps - Cheetah  - Target - $24.99 (these leopard flats are also a great option)
PARIS BLUES Ultra Skinny Five Pocket Jeans - 15 Dollar Store - $15.00 (Orig. $34.00)
total:  $53.79

As a side note, I have posted on the 15 Dollar Store in the past, but it's been awhile since I highlighted the store. They offer broad selection of name brand junior clothing which can be found at well known department stores at full price for just $15. It's worth a look.

What do you think of the outfit? Is this something you would wear? Leave your thoughts below.

Look for Less: J.Crew Cashmere Striped Boatneck Pullover

I first spotted this type of striped sweater on Glee. Isn't this outfit divine?

{via wwepw}

There is a boatneck striped sweater from J.Crew with button detail on each shoulder. I found a similar sweater at Forever 21, though it only has the buttons on one shoulder.

Featherweight Cashmere Stripe Boatneck Pullover - J.Crew - $188.00
Striped 3/4 Sleeve Sweater Top - Forever 21 - $19.80

I think I may prefer the F21 version, although the navy color on the J.Crew sweater is very nice.

What do you think of this? Is it something you would wear?

Hair Pin Styling Tips

After posting about Susan's Beehive Bazaar outfit last week, many of you commented that you don't know how to wear that kind of hair pin. I thought I would show you my favorite way to wear them.

Here are a few visual guidelines from Miss Zooey Deschanel herself {from this fantastic fansite}:

I took these very pictures to my hairdresser last time I got a cut. I love the contrast of the yellow flowers against her hair.

I like the fact that this bow pin is a bit of a throwback to childhood. I think it's adorable paired with her sophisticated sheath.

I also think it would be great to throw one on to accessorize a loose side bun.

Here are a few different hair pin options (all under just $6!):

1 - Rosette Bobby Pin - Forever 21 - $5.80
2 - Satin Grosgrain Bow Pins - Forever 21 - $1.50
3 - Leather Poppy Hair Pins - DownEast Basics - $3.99
4 - Fab Bow Hair Clips - Forever 21 - $1.50
5 - Fab Dainty Satin Bobby Pins - Forever 21 - $1.50
6 - Metallic Bow Hair Clips - Forever 21 - $2.50

What do you think of hair pins like this? Is this a look you would wear?

Like a Star: Zooey Deschanel for Cotton

It's no great secret that I totally dig pretty much everything about Zooey Deschanel's style. From her blunt cut bangs to her wardrobe overflowing with vintage finds. If you have been reading this blog for some time, you might remember my, uh, obsession with her wardrobe in 500 Days of Summer.

Do you remember the commercials she did for Cotton? Some time has passed but I can't get it off my mind.

I especially loved this combo, as it combines two of my favorite things: cardigans & embellished shoes.

Here are a few pieces inspired by that ensemble.

Patent Peeptoes - Forever 21 - $22.80
Ruffled Button Front Top - Charlotte Russe - $16.00
Grand Dame Brooch Necklace - Forever 21 - $10.80
Crepe Chiffon Trim Cardigan - Forever 21 - $22.80

TOTAL: $72.40

What do you think of Zooey's style? Is this look something you would wear? Leave a comment!

Like a Star: Natalie Portman on Marie Claire

I have heard much buzz about the latest Marie Claire Natalie Portman cover. (I sort of loathe the grocery store and haven't actually seen it in person, hehe.) I did, however, recieve an email from Dawn asking for something like that lovely little Lanvin number in a reasonable price range.

1 - Spaghetti Strap Maxi Dress - $42.49 (Orig. $64.59)
2 - Large Dahlia Flower - $30.00
3 - Boutique Strapless Ruched Satin Gown - $98.00

Did this magazine cover catch your eye? What do you think of the look for less? Which dress do you prefer? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading,

Hope you all have lovely weekends!

Like a Star: America Ferrera Top

Hooray for new features! This request thing has gotten me thinking that I really like to define my posts. And with so many requests coming from different people, I am defining them left and right. It will probably stop soon. I hope. It would be ridiculous if I had 400 different kinds of posts.

Anyhoo, here's the newest feature: Like a Star. It pretty much just means trying to do a celebrity look for less. The reason I wanted to define it like this is twofold (1) many of the pictures of celebrities don't say where the clothing comes from, so I can't tell you where to look for originals, and (2) obviously to indicate the look is celebrity inspired.

The request that started this novel of a post was from Aubrey. She asked for several celebrity inspired looks, and I will do a few of them spread out in different posts. The first was this America Ferrera top:

{image}

Here are my budget finds:

1 - I.N. San Francisco Ruffled Chiffon Top - Dillard's - $22.78 (Orig. $34.00)
2 - Ruffle Striped Blouse - Charlotte Russe - $21.99
3 - AGB Blouse, Short Sleeve Ruffle V-Neck - Macy's - $22.00 (Orig. $44.00)
4 - Sheer Chiffon Blouse - Rampage - $21.99 (Orig. $44.00)

Can I say that I really dig America Ferrera's style? Well, it's my blog, and I just said it. grin

What do you think of the look? The bargain finds? What's your favorite? Leave a comment!

Keri Russell's Look For Less

New reader, Nichole, sent me a request for this Keri Russell look. And I love it. I already loved Keri Russel because she's fabulous (Felicity Season 1, anyone?), but the style she is exuding in this magazine shot brings my admiration to a whole new level!

Here is my best stab at her look on a budget:

Ruffled Cardigan - Forever 21 -$29.00
Striped Woven Top - Forever 21 - $15.80
Lace Trim Cami - Forever 21 - $5.80
Bootcut Jean - Forever 21 - $27.80
Patent Loafer - Urban Outfitters -$38.00
TOTAL: $116.40

The most difficult thing to find for this look was a button up shirt with horizontal stripes. I never did find one that I liked. So, I substituted a more traditional vertical striped top. But, other than that I feel like I hit pretty close to the mark.

What do you all think? Did I get it right? Is it something you would wear? Leave a comment!

Also, I just added a contact feature over to the right, so if you have a request, you can just click the button to submit it!
