I Could Do That: Summer Essential Skirt

Let me tell you about my number one summer essential (regardless of size). A simple DIY gathered skirt. Like this one:

I made this skirt last summer and practically lived in it. Let me tell you why it's the perfect piece of clothing. It's crazy easy to sew, you can pick your own fabric, you can decide on the fullness of the skirt, and possibly most importantly you can customize the length. So do yourself a favor and pick out some fabric and start sewing.

  1. Did you make that out of denim? Is it a heavy, medium weight or lightweight denim? (it it is indeed denim.)

  3. It is the lightest weight denim I could find. I really wanted chambray but couldn't find any at the time.

  7. Have you tried making a maternity version? I made several of these same skirts last summer and thought I could make a few more for this summer (I'm due in October) that were a little fuller and a little longer to wear above the bump with top tucked in.

  9. @Kim, I haven't made a maternity version, but I am sure it would be pretty simple. I have had great luck thrifting full skirts from the 80's that would normally be that awkward mid-calf length, but when over my bump hit at about the knee.
