Look for Less: J.Crew Twyla Tank

I found this on Old Navy's website and am seriously considering ordering it with the ON gift card I got from my Mother in Law for Christmas. Then I was perusing the new J.Crew Catalog and saw this top with a similar neckline.

Silk Twyla Tank - J.Crew - $65.00
Matte-Charmeuse Bubble Top - Old Navy - $9.99 (Pink), $7.99 (Grey & Black)

I realize that the bubble hemline makes it slightly different, but I am thinking of ordering the top in "tall" and hacking off the bubble to make it more similar to the original. Also, this top is just $7.99 if you buy it in black or grey!

J.Crew: Extra 20% Off Clearance

I saw that J.Crew is offering an extra 20% off of final sale items (online and in stores) at J.Crew Aficionada today:

It will probably come to my inbox eventually, but I think J.Crew actually knows I am more of a lurker than purchaser and withholds information because of this. Remember to use coupon code: EXTRA20 for the discount....

I was sort of hoping to drag myself to the J.Crew outlet today and punch someone in the face over a Jackie cardigan on sale (kidding). But I was hoping to find some killer deals there today, I just am not sure if I have the shop or die instinct in me this morning.

And if you are looking for some of those fancy after Christmas sales, check with Chloe, she's written a fabulous post here.

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas, and are still enjoying the holiday with family and friends!

Christmas Wishlist: Charlotte Russe Jewelry

Apparently I am hard to shop for. Methinks this is because I am very particular about what I like, and I love to shop for myself. So, my wishlists get lengthy and frankly I don't love surprises. Anyway. I think Steve (my hubs) still needs to pick up a few things for me and I am a big fan of the jewelry at Charlotte Russe right now. Here are a few of my favorites.

1 - Rhinestone Ribbon Necklace - $10.99
2 - Dangle Beaded Bracelets - $5.50
3 - Pearl & Rhinestone Necklace - $8.50

I especially like the pearl bracelet and necklace. They remind me of some of the things over at the LOFT for a fraction of the price.

Spied: ON Ruffle Scoop Neck Tee

I should say spied and snagged. I bought this little number this week. (I was able to do this because my Mom very kindly gave me my Christmas shopping money a little early. Thanks Mom!)

Similar to J.Crew offerings in the past, no?

I bought it in Marshmellow (this color is all but sold out online, but still seems to be available in stores). And for whatever reason, it was just $10 in store, instead of the listed $12.50. I am seriously considering buying it in Navy as well. I am loving the delicate detail at the neckline, because it gives the shirt a little something extra, but not so much that you can't throw a cardigan (or two) over it.

Women's Ruffled Scoop-Neck Tee - Old Navy - $12.50

Turning One

I can't believe I have been writing this blog for a year. It boggles the mind.

If you are feeling nostalgic, you can read my very first post here. It makes me giggle to think I am encouraging you to read my amateur work, and I am so tempted to go edit the post, but I think I'll leave it in place... for posterity's sake.

{via we heart it}

Have a piece of cake, or pie, or a cookie if you can find one. Man, I want a cookie right now.

Shabby Apple Giveaway

Shabby Apple wants to give away a 90 Words per Minute Dress to one of you, my dear readers. How cool is that dress? How cool is Joan Harrison (née Halloway)? How cool were the '60s? How cool were secretaries in the '60s? This dress has all of that fantasticness going on.

I have posted on Shabby Apple in the past, but here is some background on the company,

"Shabby Apple welcomes you to great dresses that make dressing simple. After years of not being able to find stylish dresses that covered enough skin to make you really feel comfortable (without wearing a tank top, cardigan or long slip), owners Emily and CK decided to do something about it. They visited trade shows, marketplaces and designer studios only to discover the problem was not that department stores weren't buying the right dresses, but that designers weren't designing them. Shabby Apple is proud to offer you fantastic dresses that allow you to look fabulous, without having to compromise anything else. A return to what dresses were always meant to be — a one-piece outfit."
(image and quote from shabbyapple.com)

And for you philanthropists, Shabby Apple helps women worldwide by donating 5% of their sales to support work in India. Read more about that here...

Like a Star: Natalie Portman on Marie Claire

I have heard much buzz about the latest Marie Claire Natalie Portman cover. (I sort of loathe the grocery store and haven't actually seen it in person, hehe.) I did, however, recieve an email from Dawn asking for something like that lovely little Lanvin number in a reasonable price range.

(See all the behind the scenes pictures of her photo shoot at marieclaire.com)

2 - Large Dahlia Flower - $30.00

Reader Request: Casual Holiday Party

I got a request a few weeks ago (good thing she was proactive and asked early, because I am a wee bit behind) from Elise,

I've been reading your blog for a while now and love it! ... I will be attending a Christmas dinner party for my husband's new job. It's a small company, and the party will be held in a home, so it won't require formal attire. From talking with another spouse, I have the impression that the women will likely wear things like pants and sweaters/blouses. I have some options in my closet but feel blah about them. I'd love to get something new that makes me feel confident. And I'd love for it to be fun and fashionable with maybe a touch of sparkle but not so "holiday-ish" that I can't wear it at other times. And obviously I don't want to break the bank. Have you seen anything lately that would fit the bill? Thanks for your advice!

I think this is the best kind of Holiday party to go to. Nobody has to buy a fancy dress that they will never wear again, but every body has a chance to wear something that makes them feel fabulous. I wish I had one of these to attend.

This is what I came up with:

-Fab Ankle Capri Pant - Forever 21 - $15.50 (I say this is good alternative to the drool worthy Minnie pant over at J.Crew [which rings in at $89.50])
-Fiona Frill Stretch Top - Forever 21 - $15.80 - I just love these all-over vertical ruffles
-Removable Pin Cardigan (shown without pin) - Forever 21 - $15.80
-Satin Bow Pump - Spiegle - $34.00 (Orig. $49.00) - Isn't there something so feminine about an open toe embellished heel? I would love to own a pair, this pair perhaps....

What do you think? Is this something you guys would wear? Leave a comment!

Spied: Ruffle Trim Sweater Cardigan

I stumbled across this last night, and sigh, it's almost perfect.

Ruffle Trim Cardigan Sweater - $15.80

I am so in love with the shape of this and I know I have seen similar things at other (more expensive) stores before.

I do have a problem, er, maybe that's the wrong word, an observation about Forever 21. For some reason they seem offer their cardigans in basically only two colors: charcoal and purple. This includes their men's cardigans! My husband has been pretty open to the whole cardigan sweater thing, but I don't think, no, I know he wouldn't be caught dead in a purple cardigan. And as far as the ladies' sweaters go, I just want a little color variety. I own about a billion grey cardigans, and I fear purple may not be so timeless or versatile in my wardrobe as other colors.

I can tell you now that if this were available in white, cream, beige, or brown I would snatch it up in a hurry (I have a warm color cardigan void to fill). This doesn't stop the shape and price from being amazing, and grey from being one of my favorite neutrals.... so someone go forth and purchase!

Ramblings of a Blogger

Blogging is a funny thing.

I feel I have created this world where time is no object, and fashion is all that counts. It is a place where you all read some of my thoughts on a regular basis, but don't necessarily know me, and so I hesitate to share too much of myself. I have decided it is time to tell you all what is going on in my life, as it will effect the blog.

For the last four years I have struggled with migraines, headaches (yes, there is a difference), and exhaustion. It doesn't sound like much, until you are living it... but it can be kind of miserable. (You know when you are googling 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome' that your energy levels aren't quite up to scratch.) For a time I was on a daily medication that made me feel as though I had never had a problem in the first place, and it was incredible. This was the time during which I started the blog. But recently, I have slipped back into the place I was before. My energy is limited and, frankly, some days so is my motivation.

I have made a decision to cut back on the number of posts I write and the requests I take for my own sake. I have set a pattern of posting every week day, and every day I "miss" a post, I feel guilty. I have decided I need to focus on feeling better not on worrying about writing 5 posts a week. So, my goal is to write about 3 a week, if I feel good that week, it may be more, and if I don't, it may be less. I hope you all understand.

I really do appreciate each and every one of you for giving me a place to share my thoughts and to explore my sense of fashion and for trusting me to help you with discovering yours. It's been a wonderful year of blogging, thanks for coming along for the ride.

Friday Wishlist: Long Cardigan

This is the sort of thing that gets on your wish list when you are digging in your closet, and you realize you are missing an essential piece. As I was getting dressed this morning, I decided that I seriously need one of these:

Cropped-Sleeve Long Cardigan - Gap - $69.50

What do you think? What's on your wishlist this week?

Thanks for reading,

Have a lovely weekend!

Spied: Removable Pin Cardigan

How great is it when you put on a coat and you find a $20 in the pocket? This weekend I experienced the digital equivilent. I was cleaning out my inbox when I stumbled on an E-gift certificate to Forever 21 my sister-in-law, Olivia (thanks again!), gave me for birthday (which was in July). I got it while roughing it in Alaska, so it totally slipped my mind. The best part of this discovery is I am under a self-imposed shopping embargo. So, I totally felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I thought I would share with you what I bought:

Removable Pin Cardigan - Forever 21 - $15.80

Cardigan obsessed? Guilty! But I really like the shape of this, and it reminds me a bit of this outfit by E. on academichic from a few weeks ago. She gave me the bug for a slouchy grey sweater (which I am SO excited to pair with some ankle cropped pants come spring, yes, I am already talking about spring).

I also love that it comes with that removable pin. Those flowers pins are an incredibly transformative and versatile thing to have. (I love to pair them with a bit of ribbon around my waist to create the J.Crew bouquet sash belt effect.)

So, what do you think? Did I make a good choice? What would you have picked? Leave a comment!
