15 Spring Trends You Already Own

As we all know, fashion is a cycle. It's a gift to our wallets that these very hot styles are things many of us already own. I found this great list of 15 spring trends we may already have at Stylebakery {link}:

Scarves
You may have invested in a lightweight scarf last summer or maybe have an old printed silk scarf in your closet. This is the a great season to drape it over cardigans, tees, and tanks.

Cardigans
A true wardrobe staple (and a personal favorite piece of mine), the cardigan happens to be super trendy right now. Whether boyfriend-style or short and ladylike, layer yours over just about anything. Add a belt to quickly pull together your look. See Academichic for some great cardigan examples on how to creatively wear cardigans.

Belts
Show off that waist! Thick or thin, belts are an essential accessory, instantly transforming virtually anything in your wardrobe. They can be used to to cinch t-shirts, blouses, dresses cardigans, jackets, and more. And my new favorite way for a belt to be used is as part of maternity wear (see this post for examples).

Chandelier Earrings
You probably have a pair of these hanging around. A few years ago, they were the jewelry must-have. Dig them out and wear them once again to add drama to your evening look.

Turquoise Jewelry
Every few years, turquoise jewelry regains its must-have status proving to be a wise investment for your collection. Lucky for you, this is the year. (This is great! I just bought a sweet turquoise necklace, and it's 'in' this season.)

Wedge Shoes
Still in style. Luckily you already have a pair or two, don't you?

Boyfriend Jeans
I don't know if I am totally sold on this whole boyfriend jean thing.... but lots of people are digging it, including Reachel at CE. This look is easy enough. Have an old pair of baggy jeans in your closet? Dig them out, roll the bottoms and wear them with ballet flats (best if you are tall) or heels (for the vertically challenged).

Metallic Accessories
Copper, gunmetal, silver, gold, or bronze, metallic accessories continue to be a hot trend.

Ruffles
If you purchased a pirate shirt (guilty as charged) or something else ruffled last year, you're in luck - ruffles are in again this season.

Chunky Bangles
Chunky bangles, the more colorful the better, are still chic. Wood and geometric styles are also hot.

Black and White Pieces
Surely you have something black and something white in your wardrobe, just pair them together.

Trench Coats
The one piece on every Top 10 list year after year is the trench coat. Hopefully you've got at least one by now - bonus points (for this season) if it's in a bright color. Don't own a trench? You should buy one (neutrals are best for long term use).

Pencil Skirts
If you don't already own one, a pencil skirt in a seasonless fabric is a piece that will get use season after season. This spring, pair it with something as simple as a t-shirt and a belt or a tank and cardigan.

Ballet Flats
According to Style Bakery, for more than 8 seasons in a row, the comfy chic ballet flat has been your go-to shoe for work and weekends. Bright colors, metallics, snakeskin and embellished styles are especially hot this spring.

Hobo Bags
If you have slouchy bag in your closet from seasons past, thankfully, it's back in style.

Do you guys have many of these things in your closets? Leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Weekend Round-Up

I have a few things to share:

First, don't forget to pick up your FREE SHIRT at Uptown Cheapskate. This deal is only good through the rest of today. Read my full post here from earlier this week.

Next, it seems Old Navy bit off a bit more than they could chew with Old Navy Weekly. According to this statement, they are altering what they do (Thanks to Amanda for sending this to me):

"Here what’s happened so far... We thought we were being sneaky hiding coupons for up to $75 and $50 off on OldNavyWeekly.com. We thought it’d take some serious snooping skills for anyone to find these fabulous coupons. Then we launched the site and over million visitors proved us very, very wrong. You all hunted and found the coupons in record time week after week and in the process even managed to shut down our site a few times due to overwhelming traffic. So, while we’re flattered by all the attention we need a little time to regroup—or rather find ways to make this game of ours a little trickier to solve. So for the next few weeks, OldNavyWeekly.com will still be updated weekly but we won’t be re-seeding the premium coupons and only hiding up to $10 off any $50 purchase. But in April, we’re bringing back the premium coupons and they’ll be in even more fabulous hiding places! So be sure to keep your hunting skills sharp! " {link}

J.Crew is giving an extra 20% off of it's final sale items through Saturday. If only I had known this before I order that sweet cardigan. So, you should take advantage of it so I don't feel so bad for missing out.

American Eagle is having a buy a pair of shorts and get one 50% off deal. They are also offering free shipping if you buy the dress of the day.

Also, the ladies over at Stuff Under Twenty wrote a blog posts that you should check out:

Three Great Stores That Some Recessionistas May Have Overlooked

And Reachel at Cardigan Empire spent the week writing posts on finds at stores other than Anthropologie:

Forever 21 - (and if you will notice she picked the same floral cardigan as I did here on Monday, just in a different color), JC Penneys, Kohl's, and one of my personal favorites, Old Navy.

If you know of any deals that you want to share, please leave a comment.

I will have a series of things under twenty all day, so check back.

Thanks for reading, and as always,

Happy Shopping!

Shop Your Closet

I found this great article about how to shop in your own closet at Shoe String Magazine.

"Everybody’s feeling it—the Dow is dropping daily, and so is your savings account for a new spring wardrobe. But looking like a million bucks and spending a million bucks are rarely connected. In fact, you're probably more fashionable than you think because there are dozens of outfits in your closet waiting to be discovered, right there among the clothes you already own. While the economy is forcing us to decide between needs and wants, now is the perfect time to get creative, get organized, and look fabulous while embracing the Three R's (reducing, reusing, and recycling) by shopping your own closet." Read the rest of the article here...

A few of my favorite tips from the article were:

Look for Patterns: Do you own five pairs of dark wash jeans (yes!), practically identical in style? Looking for patterns makes you more aware of what you own and ultimately saves money. Next time you're out shopping you can say "no" to those jeans on sale (which is probably how you ended up with the five pairs in the first place)....

Add a Belt: This one of the quickest ways to change an entire look. Many solid-color dresses and even sweaters can benefit from the accessory pop of a belt. Try it high on the waist (great for the petite) or sling it around your hips depending on what's most flattering. (Once you start belting you may not be able to stop!)

Reinvent your accessories: Pull out your jewelry box and start thinking creatively about different ways to utilize the items... Viewing items with fresh eyes and playing the "what if…" game can reinvigorate your clothes and bring fresh life to items that are already at your disposal. Your clothes (and accessories) are meant to socialize with each other. Sometimes our wardrobe combination patterns are so entrenched that it's difficult to break patterns. A good exercise is to take out some basics and see how many combinations can you make with just a few items... Before you know it, you’ve got a bangin' wardrobe, and you haven't spent a cent.

Anyway, please read the full article.... it's chock full of great tips! Do any of you have any tips for saving on or reinventing your wardrobe? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading, and Happy Reinventing!
