Two Little Letters {H&M}

Guess what coveted bargain-priced retailer is coming to Salt Lake City. H&M. I do not kid you.

If you follow me on twitter, you already know this, but I just had to share it again. Check out the whole Salt Lake Tribune article to read more. Here's a snippet:
Apparel retailer H&M is opening its first Utah store. H&M, short for Hennes & Mauritz, plans to open this fall a 23,000 square foot store at Fashion Place mall in Murray.
According to KSL, the store is scheduled to open in the fall. I still say that H&M should open online shopping to the US, but for the locals, this is the next best thing.

Leave your thoughts below.

Spied: J.Crew Wedding & Party for a steal

If you live in the greater Salt Lake City area, I discovered something everyone should know. The Sugarhouse DownEast store carries discontinued J.Crew wedding and party dresses for a steal. The wedding dresses are $100, and the party dresses are $50! (There was an extra 30% off deal on them too, but I think it might have been the last day of that promo).

I stared at the most beautiful antiqued eyelet wedding dress for 15 minutes today, and wanted to buy it because it was amazing and my size. I'll just wear it around the house as I am already married and only intend to do that once. If someone is a size 2, go get that dress for me, and let me know.

If you are getting married, know someone getting married, or just need a LBD (and who doesn't need one of those?) this is the place to go.

Has anyone checked out the selection here? Bought a one of theses dresses? Leave a comment!

Happy Shopping!

Check It Out

Do you all remember the Dare to Design contest from Shabby Apple I posted awhile back? Well, the top 15 entries are in! I think you should all go and vote on your favorite here. Mine? #12! Check out that neckline and you will see why! Let me know what your favorite is, and don't forget to vote, this will be an amazing opportunity for the winner.

DownEast Basics sent me this promotion today:

Here are some of my favorite bargains (all of these things are available in more than one color, so make sure to check the website):

(Do or Tie Top 9.99, Fine Line Turtleneck 7.99, Closer Look Cardi 9.99, L'Amour Coat 17.49, Curtsy Coat 17.49)

And many thanks to Angie who commented on my Vintage post from Wednesday that Moriarty's Antiques Curiosity's is becoming Capital City Antique Mall. To commemorate the name change, there will be a huge sale on Saturday 10 am to 10 pm, this means even better prices! Also, all purchases for that day go towards benefiting a music scholarship fund (a good cause to boot!).

Visit their new Facebook page or capitalcityantiquemall.com if you want more details.

Oh! And J.Crew is offering 20% off of all knits & tees. Find them all here.

Happy weekends to all!

Shop Local: Vintage Finds

I have admired vintage clothing for years. Especially 60's dresses and skirts. As a child I would go through my mother's patterns and picture myself wearing the fabulous sheath dresses on the models.

I have looked for vintage clothes a handful of times at some of the local shops but had trouble finding something worth taking home. I say 'had' because I found the most beautiful chartreuse wool tweed pencil skirt at a little shop called Abode this weekend. It's not really a clothing store, though it has tons of fun vintage goods (including vintage buttons cards for just $1.... this discovery has all but curtailed my new button purchases).

I was helping my friend Ali look for suitcases for a photoshoot (for Bella Photos). I happened by a clothing rack and saw a few skirts. As soon as I pulled that skirt out I knew it was going home with me. I even tried it on over my pants in the middle of the store. It was $28, which is a lot for me, but I am sure I will use it for years to come.

Reasons to buy vintage (link):
• A positive effect on the environment, as you are effectively recycling garments.
• Unique fashion: These items cannot be found in any department store.
• Quality: These clothes are well cut, well made and have generous seam allowances for alterations.
• Better value: Buying vintage can be cheaper than buying new from designers.
• Detailed finish: When a vintage item is examined closely, the craftsmanship is evident. Many items were hand-stitched with superior fabric. Embroideries, unique buttons, beading, crochet, handmade lace and appliqué are all indications of solid craftsmanship. The styles tend to be more imaginative and the creativity is clearly seen.
• The story: Wearing a vintage piece is like wearing a living piece of art. Clothing from a different era tells stories about the women who came before us. Certain pieces have heritage attached. This intimate knowledge is priceless.

My purchase got me thinking that sometimes people are interested in buying something vintage but don't know where to start.

The ladies at Your Heart Out have been posting about local Utah hot spots for years (this is how I stumbled on to some of my favorite places). Click on the links below to read the full YHO posts on each place:

Moriarty's Antiques and Curiosities (spotted)
Everyone should visit this store. It's name says it all. I have yet to purchase any clothing here, but the costume jewelry and accessories are to die for (and so are the prices - killer earrings for $3, don't mind if I do).

Coal Umbrella
EDIT: Coal Umbrella recently lost it's physical location in Provo, due to a problem with their landlord, but you'll be pleased to know they aren't out of business! They are planning to open an online shop soon. Check out the details at their website below (thanks for the heads up, Elaine!)

If you live in another community, I suggest you hunt for a few vintage shops and try them out. There is no shopping like rummage shopping!

DownEast Basics Steps Up Their Game

Frosted Flower Cardigan - $34.99

DownEast? Seriously? I would pay full price for this.... and that is saying something.

I am on my way to find one of these in stores. Right now.

I'll let you all know what I think of it in person.

Weekend Round-Up

This week there were so many sales going on I wanted to tell you about them:

Firstly, it's BOGO craziness:

Both the Payless and Wet Seal deals will be going for a little while. But the Shade sale is only good until Octover 5th. So make sure to take advantage of it while you can!

DownEast Basics sent me this:

Head to the Clearance section here. My favorite thing is the School Belle Top ($15.39 with promo).

Also, DownEast just started a denim line, find the styles here.

Uptown Cheapskate has been very active lately. The sent out coupons for $5 off of a $30 purchase, and 25% extra in store credit on sales to the store. Find those coupons here. The $5 off coupon expires on Saturday, so get to it!

Also, They are having their first after-hours store party on October 3 from 7-9. They will be having Door Prizes, Exclusive Offers, Random Giveaways, and 20% off ALL jeans and shoes. If you take a friend who's never shopped there before then you'll both save 25% off your ENTIRE purchase. Plus, there will be Chocolate. Sounds like a fun to me!

And, a little off topic, I just found this great Salt Lake City guide at Design*Sponge. It was so nice to see my city being highlighted on a national design blog, and to read about places I have never been (but need to go). And to see them speak fondly about some of my favorite haunts. For those of you Utahns (or anyone contemplating Utah's level of cool), it's worth a read.

Does anyone else know about anything else going on this weekend? If you do leave a comment!

Hope you all have a happy weekend!

Also, everyone must marvel at how clever A. from Academichic is. I want to steal this outfit in its entirety from her. (If you aren't reading Academchic, you should be.)

Weekend Round-Up

Old Navy is having a deal:

It's pretty self-explanatory. If you buy a reusable tote for a dollar you will save 10%. Those totes can be used over and over and will really come in handy in the future. The deal is an in-store deal, and is good until next Thursday (4/23).

Also, I got this comment on one of my posts,

"Hi Madeline P,

We are just stopping by to fill you and your readers in on the latest Oldnavyweekly.com news.

Coupon hunting will get trickier this week. The coupon values and when they’ll be added to the site are only known by one person and that Modelquin has her pretty, plastic lips sealed for the time being. Stay tuned for what promises to be the most exciting week yet at OldNavyWeekly.com

Good luck and happy hunting!

Nicole D.

Brand Advocate working on behalf of Old Navywww.oldnavyweekly.com"

Interesting that they commented on my little blog, but I am happy to have the info, and even happier to pass it along.

Payless Shoe Source is running BOGO (Buy One Get One Half Off) again. The deal goes through May 4th.

Salt Lake Fashion Stroll:
If cool clothes are something you’ll step out for (or into), check out the biggest-yet Salt Lake Fashion Stroll on Friday. Local boutiques and designers come together to put the lights on Broadway (300 South) with runway shows starting at 7 p.m. (I found this on Your Heart Out).

That's all the retail info I have to share this week. I do have a series of Things Under Twenty coming up. So check back frequently.

Thanks for reading, and as always,

Happy Shopping!

Down East Liquidation Sale

DownEast is running a once-in-a-season liquidation sale on their off-price clothing. Apparently, they can’t advertise the many national brands that they will carry. But, for the best deals in town (60-90% off national prices), you’ll want to be at the DownEast Outfitter store in Provo, April 14-18!

I know in liquidation sales in the past, they have had merchandise from J.Crew as while as American Eagle Outfitters. The markdowns at these sales are usually to die for. {link}

DownEast Outfitters Store
2255 N. University Pkwy (Next to Albertson's)
Provo, UT
Tuesday, April 14 through Saturday, April 18

Have any of you been to the liquidation sales in the past? Let us know if you have any more information on this sale, or if you have a chance to get to it.
