Tutorial: Floral Panel Top

When J.Crew released their spring line, I immediately fell in love with this floral panel sweater. Of course, it was way out of my budget so I decided to make one for myself and I love love love how it turned out.

Here's a breakdown:

1 - Using a piece of tissue paper, trace the shape of the front panel.
2 - Cut the tissue pattern 1/2" larger than the trace.
3 - Cut your floral fabric (mine came from a thrifted shirt) out using the pattern.
4 - Fold under the rough edges and pin the panel onto the top.
5 - Top stitch the panel to the shirt.
6 - Press the edges.

One of the things I like the most about the top is that it has the benefits of wearing a knit but with a woven front panel. No clinging to my lumpy postpartum tummy. It is such an amazing change of pace from the sea of blouses I have been wearing.

  3. I love this. I really like florals, but I feel like they can easily overwhelm me, so this would be a nice way to incorporate them!

    1. I used the fabric from a 100% cotton woven blouse that I thrifted.
