Spied: J.Crew Stripe Swingtime Sweater (Postpartum Must-Have)

Yesterday, my husband, son, and I made a journey to the mall. We were on a mission to find clothes for me that didn't make me cry in front of my closet for half an hour because nothing fits the way it's supposed to (not that this happens - that often). Getting used to this postpartum body is certainly taking some adjustment.

We started at Urban Outfitters, where I fell in love with this lone blouse on the clearance rack. Unfortunately it was missing a button (hence the clearance price) and was a size too small. It was also $50, but I am still thinking about it. Like, I could live with all the problems including the hefty price. If I am still thinking about this shirt in the morning, I am going to have to head back and figure out how to justify purchasing it.

Next we headed to J.Crew. I didn't think I would be buying anything there, but when I walked in I noticed the extra 30% off discount, so I went digging. I pulled this lightweight sweater out and was intrigued.

Stripe Swingtime Sweater - J.Crew - $49.99 (Orig. $89.50)
(In my brick and mortar store it was marked at $34.99, with the discount, I paid $24.49)

When I put it on, I fell in love. It's lightweight, soft, and swingy. It clings to the parts of me I like, and grazes over the less than desirable soft section in the middle. Not to mention the shape is just different enough to look cool and urban, or at least that's what I like to think.

I might just be living in this top for the rest of the summer, or possibly the rest of the year.

So what's your postpartum fashion must have? What do you think of the sweater? Leave your thoughts below.

  1. very cute! it says dry clean only - are you going to try washing it? I would love it if it's washable! I wore a lot of button down shirts with jeans postpartum

  2. I just bought a really similar sweater from LOFT the other week, and I love it! I wear it over skinny jeans, or even shorts. Certainly blouse-y shirts are key in the months (years) postpartum. I just did a Mommy Style outfit post on my blog! I find it really inspiring to see the clothes other REAL moms are interested it!

  3. Dealing with my postpartum body has been much harder than I ever thought it would be. {Have you started losing all of your hair yet? Mine is falling out everywhere, and it's both depressing and gross.} I recently hit up the J. Crew myself, but online because Christian hates shopping and I wasn't brave enough to attempt the mall with babies. Flowly blouses and looser fitting tops are my must-haves, along with pants that are a size {or two} bigger than my norm. This sweater looks great -- I might have to try it!

  4. My postpartum fashion must-have was a soft, comfortable, but still stylish shirt from Old Navy. I bought it in a size larger that I normally do, because I felt the same way about my body then as you do now. It was easy-on and easy-off for breastfeeding convenience, too. Now that my baby is 5 months old and my body *almost* looks like normal, I still wear the same shirt and just belt it at the waist. Also, a tip - don't buy pants right now! It makes you want to cry to think about continuing to wear your maternity clothing AFTER you've had your baby, but any pants you buy now won't fit later - trust me. Your hips will probably never shrink back to their pre-pregnancy size, but they will get smaller as time goes by. Learn to appreciate your newly curvy figure and dress to accentuate it.
