Banana Republic Sale: Extra 10% Off

Gap Corporation is all over the clearance sales right now. I went to Old Navy again today. To be ridiculous I could quote a cheesy vampire novel and tell you all the Old Navy is my particular brand of heroin. There are other stores that I might admire more, but none that have the combination of cute styles, reasonable prices, and freakin' crazy clearance racks. I got a tank top for $.99! This was a shirt I had been eyeing since it was $24.50. But, I digress.

I got this in my email from Banana Republic yesterday:

Here are a few things I found in the clearance section:

1 - Silk Ruffle Top - $22.49 (Orig. $70.00)
2 - Cotton/Silk Ruffle Open Cardigan - $49.49 (Orig. $80.00)
3 - Cotton-Blend One-Button Blazer - $80.99 (Orig. $132.00)
4 - Draped Cardigan - $31.49 (Orig. $60.00) {L.O.V.E.}
5 - Heritage Satin Pleated Dress - $53.99 (Orig. $132.00)
6 - Flutter-Sleeve Knot Tunic - $16.19 (Orig. $40.00)

As a side note I love that blond model's hair so much. I even took her picture to my hair dresser in January when I got it cut. It was a fun hairstyle, but never quite looked like that. Probably because I don't carry a fan everywhere I go.

So, what do you think of the sale items? Anything enticing enough to buy? Leave a comment!

How to Wear a Tank Top: Take One

I received this request from amydear via comment a few weeks ago (yes I am a wee behind on requests... I'm getting to them, I swear),

"I was wondering if you would consider posting styling tips for some of the tank tops and sleeveless things you are finding. I assume you're somewhat into modesty, and it would be great to see how you style a cute floral tank or strappy top without baring all. Thanks! "

I wear tank tops for a few reasons. I am often drawn to them because they tend to have details and patterns that are hard to find on a top with sleeves. And I don't mind owning them because I think layering creates visual interest in an outfit.

Initially, I was very excited to do this post. I was just trying to figure out how to best illustrate styling tips. Then, I realized that my good friend Ali (of chicibella) had just started doing photography, {find her blog, bella photos, here} and she offered to take some photos for me. She did such an amazing job! Using some of those photos, I will do several posts illustrating some of my favorite ways to wear tank tops modestly.

Today, I want to talk about embellished tops.

I bought this tank from Old Navy's clearance rack last fall. It's 100% silk, and I got it for $6.

My new favorite way to wear this is under a relaxed v-neck tee.

{old navy embellished tank - $6, old navy grey tee - $10, thrifted black cardigan - $7, wax jeans skinnies - $20, payless kitten heels - $12, downeast necklace worn as bracelet - $7}

Here are a few tanks with trim worth grabbing:

Tulle Trim Tank - Forever 21 - $12.00 (also available in black and pink)
Monsieur Tillier Chiffon Tank - Ruche - $37.00
Racerback Ruffle Trim Top - Forever 21 - $8.80

So, what do you guys think of embellished sleeveless tops? Do you where them? Do you wish you did? Leave a comment!

What do you all think? Anyone else feeling the ruffle love? Leave a comment.

Community Knowledge: Plus Size Fashion

I got an email recently from Shara looking for some help,

"I ended up taking a few months off of work.... and packed on 20 pounds. I am in the process of losing weight, but need to fashionably clothe the body I have. Where can I find well-fitting clothes in the sizes of 16-18?"

I will be the first to admit that I am not an expert on plus size fashion. So, I leave the question to you readers. Where do you find the best bang for your buck?

Please leave a comment! Shara and I would love to hear your answers.

Gap Sale: Extra 20%

I don't remember the last time I bought something at the Gap. Wait, it was the summer of '05 and I had a $60 gift card. You better believe I squeezed every penny out of it too. I am not sure why I don't shop here often. I love to play at Old Navy and I fawn over the sophistication of Banana Republic. Gap is my Gap Company poor forgotten middle child. But, here's a good excuse to get back to the Gap:

I found a couple things worth snagging:

1. Supersoft Flutter T - $11.99 (from $14.99 Orig. $29.50)
2. Linen Blend Bomber Jacket - $31.99 (from $39.99 Orig. $69.50)
3. Pintucked Blouse - $15.99 (from $19.99 Orig. $49.50)
4. Poppy Bow Ballet Flats - $19.99 (from $24.99 Orig. $39.50)
5. Verticle Ruffle Top - $19.99 (from $24.99 Orig. $29.50)
6. Real Straight Cropped Jeans - $19.99 (from $24.99 Orig. $64.50) - {thanks to reader, Nancy, for pointing this out one out!}

What are your favs? I am so in love with that Poppy Ballet Flat I could just die. Someone buy them, and tell me how much they love them. Ok? I am on a new budget, ladies. I am always on a budget, but this one involves my hours being cut at work, and me deciding that 80 billion pairs of shoes is enough {for now}. What do you all do when you are on a strict budget to take the edge off the need to shop? Probably not visit my blog, hehe.

Leave a comment, I always love to hear what you all have to say.

Oh, if you decide to order something from the Gap, make sure it's by Friday and to use coupon code EXTRA20 at check out!

Look for Less: Frye Boots & Corsage Tee

I got a little present in my inbox yesterday. Reader, Rachel sent me a message indicating that she had purchased these Frye Boot look-alikes from Target (and that they were on sale):

Frye 'Harness 12R' Boot - Norstrom - $217.95
Mossimo Katherine Leather Engineer Boots - Target - $39.99 (Orig. $49.99)

I think they are crazy similar. What do you think? Are they enough to satisfy your Frye itch?

EDIT: According to Ali at chicibella (who posted on the same boots today.... they say great minds think alike), these boots run a little small. She tried on a size larger than her normal shoe size and with socks, they fit great. Thanks for the tip Ali!

Also, I stumbled across something that really piqued my interest last night. Some of you may remember me making my own corsage tee in the spring (see the post here). But in our DIY, I know we spent about $8.00 on supplies and I spent 5 hours sewing, (ok some of that time was actually crying about the first failed attempt). So, when I saw a corsage tee for just $9.99 I took notice:

Perfect-Fit Scoopneck Corsage Tee - J.Crew - $34.50
City Style Corsage Double Scoop Tee - New York & Co. - $9.99 (Orig. $18.95)

The color palette of the J.Crew shirts is more understated, but I am loving the white and teal from New York & Co.

What do you guys think? Is it a good alternative? Would you wear it?

I would love to hear what you have to say, leave a comment!

Nanette Lepore: Look for Less

I got an email from Lizney (she inspired this Anthro look for less) asking for another look on a budget. She found this Nanette Lepore look that she wants, but can't justify paying for. {Don't know who Nanette Lepore is? You aren't alone.... I just heard of her last week from Chloe of the chloe conspiracy}. Anyway, here's the look:

Not only was it $670 for a corset and blazer, it's sold out and couldn't be purchased even if you could afford this kind of splurge. So, here's my look for less:

Ladies Night Ruffled Corsette - $275
1 - Penny Pintucked Corset Top - G by Guess - $19.95 (Orig. $39.95)
2 - Callie Drawstring Shirt - Forever 21 - $19.80
3 - Gossamer Sleeveless Blouse - Forever 21 - $22.80

I am providing 3 options depending on your personal preference on modesty.

Night Out Jacket - $395.00
1 - Gabardine Blazer - Forever 21 - $29.80
2 - Rose Brooch - iroshka's Etsy Shop - $10.00

Pair the whole thing with your favorite dark rinse boot cuts and black heels or boots and you are good to go!

What do you all think? Would you wear it? Leave a comment!

I thought my craving for these jeans might subside with time. I first spotted them when I did this J.crew look for less in April. {I was wrong by the way, I want them more now than I did then}. I just noticed that the price isn't going down though, it has actually gone up $7! Oh well. A girl can dream right?

I la-la-love you ankle toothpick jeans.

Sh Sh Shade Giveaway

Today I am delighted to offer a giveaway from the always wonderful Shade Clothing. As I wrote in this post some time ago, Chelsea Rippy created Shade because of her frustration at not being able to find modest, hip clothing. And how I love the hip modest clothing she has created since that time.

Shade asked me to review a few pieces and then offer you all a free item! They sent me the drape-front cardigan and the plaid tunic. And here is my self portrait debut on the blog...

{worn with [1] thrifted braided belt ($1.50), revolt skinny jeans ($7), bandalino heels ($25)
[2] thrifted braided belt ($1.50), wax jeans black skinnies ($20), white mt. boots ($18)}

I am so excited about both of these beautiful items.

Drape Front Cardigan - I fell in love with the drape front cardigan from the moment my arm first went in the sleeve. I love the charcoal color, and the beautiful draped front. It seems to fall away from my body and hug me in all the right places at the same time. Not to mention it's incredibly versatile.

Plaid Tunic - Tunics are new to me, but with an added belt, I really love the silhouette. And the subtle orange and navy color palette is fab.

After much dilberation and a vote by all of you, I am so excited to offer a Drape Front Cardigan to one of you readers!

{Drape Front Cardigan - $38.50}

Because this is my first giveaway, I am going to be pretty generous with entries. EACH entry must be notified in the form of a comment on the blog. The winner will be determined by giving each entry a number and using to select the winning number.

Anyone can enter (including you, anonymous readers). Just comment below with your first and last name and a valid email address so I can contact you if you win.

-Leave a comment telling me your favorite item at Shade.
-Become a new follower of my blog and comment to let me know.
-Put my blog in your blog roll or add my button to your blog and tell me in a comment.
-Post about the giveaway on your blog and send me your link, and leave a comment.

The Giveaway ends on Sunday, September 20, at Midnight (Mountain Standard Time)

Kate Spade: The Look for Less

I would guess that most of you have seen pictures of Kate Spade's new line, they have been all over the blogosphere. And for good reason. Her styling is SO cute! I found this really great outfit that I wanted to do for less. It was accessorized to the 9's so I only found a few important pieces. I love this outfit, though I find the socks and heels questionable (as discussed on this SYtH post).

Jacket - J.Crew - $69.99 (Orig. $198.00)
Earrings - tinydewdrop's Etsy shop - $13.50
Tiered Ruffle Top - Express - $14.75 (Orig. $29.50)
Socks - Old Navy - $4.50
Bracelets - Forever 21 - $5.80
Shoes - Buckle - $33.16 (Orig. $49.50)

TOTAL : $141.70
(Remember this includes a coat, always an investment piece, so I am ok with it being over $100)

What do you all think? Have you had a chance to look at Kate Spade's line? What do you think of the look for less? Of socks with heels? If you have an opinion, leave a comment!

Friday Wishlist: Riding Boots

I want riding boots. Last year, when Mervyn's was closing, I found riding boots. Beautiful black boots. The only problem was I didn't know how badly I wanted them. I was all concerned in finding flat grey boots (which I did find and which I love). They were $30 and my husband told me to buy them and I said no. (Isn't my husband perfect?) Anyway. I will be on the hunt from here on out. And these are at the top of my wish list:

Riding Boots - Victoria Secret - $118 (technically, with the 20% discount with code 20DVSBOOTS, they are $94.40)

Thanks to Ali from chici bella for pointing these out earlier this week.

What do you guys think? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading, and have a fabulous weekend!

Poll: Shade Clothing

Which of these items would you rather have? (Poll to the right, leave your comments below if you have them.)

Oh, and today is the last day to get an extra 20% off of J.Crew's final sale. So, check it out here.

Friday Wishlist: Linen Skimmer

I need a pair of black flats. I have a pair of black kitten heels, but though they may resemble flats, they are not. I found these sweet linen flats at Urban Outfitters, and now I need black flats and want a pair in every other color!

Kimchi Blue Linen Flats - Urban Outfitters - $28

What are your shoe wants or must haves right now? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a lovely long weekend!

{I'll be back with Morgan's requested Anthro inspired look for less on Tuesday!}

Reader Request: Anthro Cardigan

Arlynn of Fleur De-Liscious asked if I could find a version of this Pleated Cardigan that runs for $128 at Anthropologie for closer to $50.

It was tricky a little minx, but here is what I came up with:

Accordian Pleat Cardigan - Soft Surroudings - $29.99 (Orig. $69.00)

Pleated Trim Jacket - Overstock - $42.99 (Orig. $68.00)
Metal Slot Belt - Forever 21 - $7.80

Alfani Tie-Front Long Swing Cardigan - Macy's - $69.00

This particular challenge was pretty difficult. Some of those Anthropologie items are highly detailed and highly priced for a reason.

What do you think of the options? Leave a comment!

Thanks for reading, and as always,

(500) Days

So, I am a little MIA on the post. I went to see (500) Days of Summer with my husband and sister in law last night. Holy smokes did I love it!

I will be doing a post on Summer inspired fashions soon, but in the meantime you should all see this movie. Seriously.

I will be back with a reader issued challenge tomorrow.

Have a lovely day!
